All students in the SDC English classes are participating in the Read 180 reading program. This is a highly structured program that is administered with the direct supervision of a special education teacher.
Please engage your child in the love of reading by reading with your child for a minimum of 20 minutes per night. This is my required homework for all students participating in the program. Also, encourage your child to select materials that are of high interest to him/her. Studies have shown that the more a child is exposed to printed language, the better their reading and vocabulary skills. I suggest a medium that will expose your child to new words and those that are repetitive, to develop sight word vocabulary. In addition, I suggest you and your child discuss when has been read in order to increase reading comprehension skills.
