I’m honored to join Louis Armstrong Middle School as your new principal! Our vision is to empower students to become lifelong learners with strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills, ready for college and careers.

We’re proud to be a 2023 California School to Watch—recognized for our high expectations, strong academic programs, and commitment to student success. Our goals are simple but powerful: 100% culmination, academic proficiency for all, perfect attendance, strong family and community partnerships, and total student safety.

Dear Armstrong Middle School Students, Families, Teachers, Staff, and Community Members,

I hope this message finds you well and filled with excitement for the year ahead. My name is Lester D. Powell, Ed.D., and I am honored to serve as the new principal of Louis Armstrong Middle School. I am thrilled to join this exceptional community and to continue building on the strong foundation you and Dr. Drew have worked so hard to establish.

For the past 11 years, I have had the privilege of serving as principal of Tulsa School for Advanced Studies in Granada Hills. Now, I look forward to supporting our talented staff, empowering our students, and ensuring that our school continues to be a safe, supportive, and inspiring environment for all.

In the coming weeks, I look forward to meeting you—whether in classrooms, at school events, or through informal conversations. Building strong relationships with our students, families, and partners is my top priority, as our shared commitment to excellence will drive the continued success of our school.
