HISTORY VACATION HOMEWORK                 DUE MONDAY, January 11

• Finish and study the West African Empires Chart by rereading about the empires of Ghana, Mali, and Songhai in Chapter 5.       Study and organize all Ch 5 assignments!
• Be ready for a QUIZ when you return! Find a creative way to study!
• Ch 5 Review p 174-75: Terms 1-4; Main Ideas #6, 7, and 9; and

Standards-Based Assessment #1 and 2

For ALL Extra Credit options, you MUST RESEARCH using at least 2 sources in addition to your textbook! Be sure to put everything in your own words and cite your sources!

 

Choose a topic: Ghana, Mali, Songhai, The Influence of Islam (use ch 5 and ch 6 lesson 1), or The Kongo Kingdom (ch 6.3)

 

Choose a project:

1. Create an illustrated book showing the major events and details about government, geography, trade, religion, and achievements you learned about one or more of the West African Empires. Include at least 6 illustrations AND at least 6 pages about different topics.

 

2. Create a video travel commercial or news special for one of the empires after reviewing and researching interesting information. Include details about government, geography, trade, religion, and achievements. Include images to help show the information, and type a script as well.

1.***Optional Extra Credit: Type (or write in ink) a well-revised new Essay for the Rome Test.  PLAN your writing first, Use the feedback I wrote to you, and use the information and ideas I went over in class on Thursday, 12/2 to help restructure and improve your essay.

 

2.  EVERYONE will return the Rome test, which should already be signed, so that I can put it with your corrections pages that you turned in already.

1. Achievements and Advances of the Muslim Empire- Read and research about 3 or more topics and achievements that interest you from Ch 4 (during the Abbassid or Umayyad Dynasty). Then, create one or more of the following to show what you learned and what you think about it:

- PowerPoint              - Poster                       - Movie           -Picture Book

Be creative, add visuals as well as written information, document sources used, and put everything in your own words! Use reliable sources through WebPath Express to search from the library’s website.

 

2. Turn your Umayyads or Abbassids brochure into a commercial. Advertise the capital city and the rest of the empire by describing and showing at least 5 true facts and/ or achievements. Your commercial needs to have a written or typed script to turn in as well.
