8th English (Period 2) Assignments

Make sure you read a novel over vacation! Do not read a novel that you have already read. It can be a sequel to a novel that you read in the past.

Write a four to five paragraph essay about your Thanksgiving break. What made it memorable? What made it great?

 

Include:

Thesis Statement

Sequential Structure (Text Structure)

Topic Sentences

Supporting Evidence (Concrete Details) - interpret and explain and add emotion

Organization: Intro -Body- Conclusion

 

 

Edit your five paragraph essay about your Thanksgiving holiday.

-Make sure to provide evidence to prove your thesis.

-Explain how your evidence supports your thesis.

-Add feelings/emotions, lively words.

-Check your grammar.

 

Please type your paper. It is due tomorrow!

Please check your child's Millikan Planner everyday. Your child gets homework 2-3 times a week and should be writing all assignments down. If you notice your child has nothing written, please require your child to write "nothing" and get my signature.  It is your child's responsibility to write his/her homework assignments in his/her Millikan Planner.

Please make sure your child is reading his/her novel. He/She must finish it by 11/30/14.

Test, this coming Thursday, on two stories: "Tears of Autumn" and "The Finish of Patsy Barnes."

No homework this week. We are taking the District Assessments.  All my students should be reading a novel!

Please make sure your child's binder is organized. They should have 3-4 sections with labeled dividers: Agenda, Notes, Graded Assignments, and Grammar.

 

All students are encouraged to copy the agenda from the board.  Check your child's Agenda Section and stay current with the grammar, stories, and English topics we are learning in class.

 

1. Check your child's Millikan Planner and make sure they are writing assignments down.

 

2. Review and discuss the notes from English with your child.

 

3. Review all graded and returned work with your child.

 

4. If your child is disorganized, help them organize their binder. They need your help.

Your character analysis essay is due on Wednesday. Please see attached guidelines. If you can't type it, I need a note from your parents.

 

5 paragraph essay analyzing Professor Schlemiel from the story "The Day I Got Lost" (535-538).

Create  a character analysis T-Chart describing Professor Schlemiel from the story "The Day I Got Lost." List 5-6 character traits and provide evidence from the story to support each trait listed.

After reading "The Day I Got Lost," complete the "Review and Assess" on page 538.
