World History 7th grade (Period 2) Assignments

Read pages 58-63. Create and fill in chart about reasons for Great Schism. Answer questions 2-7 on p. 63.

Study your Fall of Rome Notes for your test on Monday. You will not be able to use your notes, so you have to memorize them and try and predict what questions the teacher (that's me) will ask.

This is for informational purposes. If you want to work ahead on the Rome DBQs, you may. they are attached. Read carefully and answer the questions fully. Re-read both the questions and the text until you understand the story being told.
You do not have to do more documents tonight, but may.

1. Finish or edit analysis of comparisons between Ancient Roman Gladiator games and today's modern entertainment. Be sure to use a minimum of seven sentences and at least two specific comparisons. Tell WHY the modern entertainment is like an aspect of the Gladiator Games. Use the words I asked to incorporate and instructed you to write down. For period 4, it's "vestige" and "catharsis." For all other periods it's just "vestige."

2. Finish this assignment:
You are to read pages 53 to 54 up to but not including, “Rome Divides into East and West.”
1. For every heading in red, ie. “Internal Weaknesses Threaten Rome,” (there are four of them) you are to take notes on the most important information. Make sure you write the section heading. 2. Then, you answer the “Review” question half way down page 54

Read pages 44 and 45.

Make sure you read the "Background" information on page 44.
Read the story about the chariot race and answer the three questions on page 45.
One of the questions is the question written in red text.
The other two are the "Reading and Writing" questions in blue.
Please use your imagination and write an exciting ending, with lots of detail in your completion article on the race. You should be able to do it in 5-7 sentences.

Read p. 50 and 51 and fill in What I Learned section of KWL on Christianity. List 6 important facts and ideas in its development. Draw one picture of fact or idea you think is most important.

Finish your section of the Rise and Expansion of the Roman Empire timeline. Make sure you have two pictures for your half. One must be hand drawn, the other taken from the internet. The picture must match the event on your timeline.

Do the map of the Roman Empire. Follow the directions and don't forget to answer the question that goes with #3.

Study for Mapping the World Test! I expect everyone to get a good grade after I taught you how to memorize. Handout is attached.

Write a five (not four, not six) sentence opening paragraph for you favorite place essay. You MUST write a hook for your opening sentence that uses one of the six suggestions from the handout we reviewed (surprising fact, humor, quote, etc,).

Your last sentence in your opening paragraph must be your thesis statement written according to the formula that you were to copy from the board today. Plug in you information into the formula as instructed.

This was due today, but you were given an extra day to do it, please have it COMPLETED. You will have no time to work on it in class.
Also, study for you Mapping the World test on Wednesday. Please learn the spelling of the answers. You will not be graded on spelling, but it's good to learn it.

Make sure your three body paragraphs are written. Each of the three paragraphs should have four sentences: one topic sentence, and three supporting evidence sentences that give specific examples of the positives about your sub topic in your topic sentence.

If you were absent, on Wednesday, Sept 4th, and/or Friday, Sept 6th, see the attached Mapping the World handout and answer the questions. Make sure you read the directions and fully boomerang them.

Quiz listing Earth's continents. You will have to list them. Make sure you capitalize them, as they are proper nouns, and spell them correctly. If you don't, you don't get credit.
