Assignment

This week we are doing a "flower dissection" or another way of thinking about it is to do "reverse engineering" on the flower to become inspired by an aspect of its structure and apply that to a human engineering need. This new field of biology is referred to as biomimicry.

Below are two links from the website asknature.org There are hundreds of remarkable examples you can find using the search feature.

Be prepared to dissect a flower in class to deepen your knowledge of flower structure and reproduction and to use your imagination to apply your observations to an engineering challenge.

Monday is the deadline for the completed and revised Science Fair written report.
The DIsplay boards must be turned in on Friday Feb 1.
Do NOT bring 3-dimensional display objects- they cannot be stored in class nor put on display.

Due:

Assignment

Some new instructions:
I am now requesting the written report DRAFT on this date, not the display board.
I want to give feedback on the written report before the display is made.

The Millikan Science Fair of Display Boards in Burrill Hall is the first week of February.
I require and score Science Fair projects (written, oral, and display) in class, and we will continue working on them during this semester.

Any student displaying work in Burrill Hall will receive extra credit. Any student who wins an award or qualifies for the LA County Science Fair will receive additional extra credit.

After the completion of our in-class oral reports later in the term, we will plan an event where interested students can present to other classes and parents.

I made some adjustments to the rubrics,  attached below. Please use them to organize your work so it can be scored efficiently.

Please email me or meet with me during nutrition lunch or after school if you have any questions or concerns about your science fair project.
